Sula's core is innovative harvesting heads cutting device equipment and services. Sula Research Oy specializes in design, research and testing. The company employs the best engineers in their field, all of whom have their own strengths in building functional technology.
Our team consists of professionals from different industries and is based on decades of solid experience in mechanized logging.
We create success for our customers and build ecological technology for the future.
We want to be an innovative operator that radiates a good work ethic.
This is the story of Marko Korhonen and Juha Stenros from forest machine operators to entrepreneurs in the forestry sector. The duo is now developing cutting head technology for future harvester heads for forest machines.
Marko Korhonen, started working with forest machines at the age of 13 in Korpijärvi, in the heart of North Savo.
– I went to work by bike. There was no money at all. I got an internship contract with a local forest machine company, Korhonen says. – I drove a Timberjack 1010 B model forwarder and that's where the journey into the forestry industry began, he continues. Korhonen attended comprehensive school in Rautavaara and then went to study the profession of forest machine operator at Valtimo for three years. Success came already during his studies in the form of a Finnish championship victory in a forest machine forwarder. The result was a scholarship and a good job. Korhonen completed his military service, after which he headed to Germany to work in storm-damaged areas. Similar jobs also appeared in France, the Czech Republic, Scotland and Sweden.
Stenros' saga in forestry began when, as a child, he sawed trees in a summer cottage on his own forest plot with his father. Sawing jobs were allowed to remain for a while, when a desire called Juha to travel around the world as a bartender. In 2018, when Juha started a family and went to study for a "real profession" for himself, he ended up studying for a basic forestry degree in Nurmijärvi. Marko and Juha "found" each other when Marko needed a photographer to record the functionality of his inventions. Juha also has a photography service, which Marko contacted. A few test shoots were done, and the friends noticed that they shared similar ideas and were quite similar in mind. This brought us to the stage where Sula began to become a reality.
